Our Story

In 1930, the Passionists established a large Monastery in Detroit to serve the spiritual needs of the church during the Great Depression. They began offering weekend retreats to share their life and prayer with the laity, which evolved into a formal retreat movement in 1948. A new facility was opened in 1960, expanding their ministry to lay men and women, priests, and religious, addressing the diverse needs for retreats and spiritual enrichment.

Impact

The Passionists continue to sponsor St. Paul of the Cross Retreat Center, providing weekend retreats that deepen faith and offer essential spiritual resources to meet life's challenges.
