Our Story

Founded in 1988 by Fr. Patrick Traynor, CSP, St. James Inn emerged from a heartfelt observation at UCLA Medical Center. Witnessing families forced to sleep in hospital lobbies or cars due to the high cost of local accommodations, Fr. Pat envisioned a sanctuary—a "home away from home" for those facing the emotional and financial burdens of critical illness. Since then, St. James Inn has become a beacon of hope, offering shelter and support to families from all walks of life during their most challenging times.

Impact

Since its inception, St. James Inn has provided no-cost lodging to over 1,100 families, ensuring they have a safe place to stay while their loved ones receive critical care.
