St George’s Community Center
EIN: 61-0651560 · Louisville, KY
Our Story
In 1964, a group of 150 African-American boys broke into the gymnasium at St. George’s parish house, igniting a movement that would transform the community. Recognizing the need for support, the Urban Mission council of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky initiated Friday night events, leading to the establishment of St. George’s Community Center in 1965. Located in a modest residential area of Louisville, this center has become a beacon of hope, addressing the challenges faced by local youth through recreation, education, and family services.
Impact
Over the past six years, St. George’s Community Center has positively impacted the lives of over 450 students during the summer months. As a proud Freedom School site, it has been recognized nationally, ranking in the top five of 153 sites across the United States.
