St. Ann's Corner of Harm Reduction
EIN: 13-3724008 · Bronx, NY
Our Story
St. Ann's Corner of Harm Reduction (SACHR) began its grassroots work in 1990 with a needle exchange program aimed at preventing the spread of HIV and AIDS among intravenous drug users in the South Bronx. Initially operating out of the trunk of a car, SACHR has grown to become the oldest continuously running syringe exchange in the United States. The organization is dedicated to meeting individuals where they are, offering non-judgmental access to health resources and support for those affected by addiction and high-risk behaviors.
Impact
In 2023, SACHR served 2,816 unique participants and provided a total of 851,689 services, including 24,851 meals distributed. The organization has significantly contributed to reducing the HIV incidence rate among injecting drug users in New York City from 60% to under 3%.
