Our Story
The Springdale Free Public Library has a rich history that began with the dedication of the Springdale Women’s Club, who donated $16.25 to start the library. On March 14, 1933, the library opened its doors in a basement room of the School Street School, showcasing a collection of donated books and a shoebox card catalog. Over the years, the library has evolved significantly, moving to various locations to accommodate its growing collection.
By 1951, the library boasted 3,000 books, and today it proudly houses approximately 35,000 books, subscribes to 53 magazines, and offers a variety of multimedia resources including DVDs and audiobooks. The library's current home, established on October 2, 1978, was made possible through a generous bequest from local businessman George Uhlinger, ensuring that the library remains a cornerstone of the community.
