Type 1 Diabetes Research and Treatment
Pig Islet Transplantation

Our Story

Founded in Minnesota in 2004, Spring Point Project emerged from the heartfelt dedication of Tom Cartier, who sought a cure for his son Cory, diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 10. Alongside other passionate parents, Tom initiated a grassroots movement to make porcine islet transplantation a viable treatment for diabetes. This effort aims to establish facilities that supply the necessary pigs for transplant trials while researchers refine the science behind this innovative approach.

Impact

Spring Point Project has made remarkable strides, including the establishment of the Diabetes Research and Wellness Islet Resource Facility and the successful breeding of medical-grade pigs. These achievements are crucial steps toward finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes.
