Our Story
Founded in 2020 by John and Mary Thompson, SPIRIT NYS was inspired by the impactful work of Youth On Their Own in Tucson, Arizona. This organization is dedicated to supporting homeless high school students in Rochester, New York, by providing essential financial assistance and mentorship to help them achieve their educational goals.
Impact
In the 2022-2023 school year, SPIRIT NYS positively impacted over 40 homeless high school students, leading to significant GPA improvements and the graduation of 15 seniors. The program also encouraged consistent attendance and awarded scholarships to three deserving students.
