Our Story

Established in 2019, Lighthouse emerged from the merger of Lighthouse of Oakland County and South Oakland Shelter, two organizations with a rich history of community service. With roots dating back to 1972, Lighthouse has evolved from a small group of volunteers providing food and clothing to a comprehensive support system for families facing homelessness and poverty. By combining the strengths of both agencies, Lighthouse now offers a range of direct services including food, shelter, and financial assistance, all aimed at fostering self-sufficiency.

Impact

In 2022, Lighthouse successfully transitioned 207 households from homelessness to stable housing, including 62 families through our Rapid Re-Housing Program. This impact reflects the commitment to providing not just immediate relief, but long-term solutions for those in need.
