Our Story

Spectrum in Motion was founded in 1982 in the Pioneer Valley/5 College Community of Western Massachusetts. For over two decades, this vibrant dance company has made Hartford its home, uniting individuals from diverse backgrounds with a shared belief that dance is essential to everyday life. The mission is twofold: to create, perform, and present high-quality original dance that celebrates global cultures, while also providing exemplary dance education for Hartford’s children who might not otherwise have access to such enriching experiences.

Impact

Each year, Spectrum in Motion serves nearly 400 young people aged 4 to 21 through its dance classes. The organization offers a multicultural dance education program that not only enhances literacy skills but also prevents summer learning loss. By engaging families in their children's artistic journeys, Spectrum in Motion fosters a supportive community.
