Our Story

Founded in 2015 by a passionate group of artists, tech enthusiasts, and entrepreneurs, Spark Makerspace was created to foster creativity and innovation in the heart of New London, Connecticut. With the support of CTNext, the City of New London, and generous community members, Spark opened its first workshop space in June 2016. The organization quickly grew from 30 to 130 active members after relocating to a larger facility on State Street in 2017. This growth was further supported by a Frank Loomis Palmer grant, which enabled the hiring of an Executive Director and the awarding of 12 scholarships.

In response to the increasing demand for creative resources, Spark Makerspace purchased and renovated a historic 9,400 square foot building on Union Street, which opened its doors in 2021. This new space allows for expanded programming and community engagement, reinforcing Spark's commitment to a member-centered approach.
