Our Story

In 1995, a coalition of consulting engineering firms and local officials established the Pittsburgh Minority and Women Business Enterprise Engineering Initiative, which later evolved into the Southwestern Pennsylvania Engineering Outreach (SPEO). Recognizing the need for technical and business support for minority and women-owned businesses, SPEO has dedicated itself to fostering the next generation of engineers and scientists. Since becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2006, SPEO has provided invaluable mentorship, networking opportunities, and educational grants to empower local youth and businesses.

Impact

SPEO is committed to enhancing opportunities for minority and women-owned engineering firms and aspiring STEM students. Through educational grants and mentorship, SPEO has helped local businesses thrive and inspired countless young minds to pursue careers in engineering and science.
