Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra
EIN: 38-6090138 · Saint Joseph, MI
Our Story
Established in 1951 as the Twin City Symphonic Society, the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra has been a cornerstone of the cultural landscape in Southwest Michigan for over seven decades. Renamed in the late 1970s, the SMSO has continually evolved to meet the needs of the community, now serving Berrien, Van Buren, and Cass counties as it approaches its 75th season.
Impact on the Community
Music education is at the heart of the SMSO's mission. The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra, founded in 1978, provides young musicians with performance opportunities, while the Music Makers program at the Boys & Girls Club in Benton Harbor fosters creativity and learning. Additionally, the 'Musicians-in-Schools' program and Master Classes enrich the lives of students throughout the region.
Why Donate?
Charitable contributions are vital for the SMSO, covering the gap between ticket sales and operational costs. Individual and institutional donors play a crucial role in sustaining the orchestra's mission.
