Our Story

The Southeast Texas Food Bank began its journey in 1991 as a satellite of the Houston Food Bank, operating from a repurposed bread factory. Over the years, it evolved into an independent food bank within the Feeding America network, significantly enhancing its capacity to serve the community. With a commitment to fighting hunger, the Food Bank has expanded its infrastructure and operations, allowing it to distribute food to those in need effectively.

Impact

Each month, approximately 12,000 households benefit from the Southeast Texas Food Bank's services, receiving around 90,000 meals. In 2020 alone, the Food Bank surpassed 10 million pounds of food distributed, equating to over 8 million meals provided to the community.
