Our Story
The South Shore Humane Society was established in 1974 by compassionate residents who were deeply concerned about the welfare of dogs in local town pounds. At that time, there was little effort to find homes for stray dogs. Volunteers began documenting the dogs' conditions and created a weekly column in the local newspaper titled "Around the Pounds" to raise awareness about adoption opportunities. Over the years, the Society has expanded its mission to include a spay/neuter assistance program, advocacy against the use of exotic animals in circuses, and a commitment to educating the public about responsible pet care.
