Our Story

The South Portland Food Cupboard was established in 1997 by a dedicated group from Holy Cross Church, initially operating out of St. John the Evangelist Church. Achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2001 allowed the pantry to focus entirely on its mission without the burden of rent or utilities for 17 years. In 2013, after relocating to a spacious double warehouse at 130 Thadeus Street, the pantry enhanced its capacity to serve the community. With the addition of a Warehouse Manager in 2015 and a new Executive Director in 2017, the organization has continued to grow and adapt to the needs of the community.

Our Impact

In the past year alone, the South Portland Food Cupboard served 6,996 families, equating to 21,981 individuals, and distributed over 490 tons of food valued at $1,881,662. Additionally, the pantry supports other local food distribution sites, contributing 93,761 pounds of food valued at $166,562.
