Our Story

South Oakland Citizens for the Homeless (SOCH) has been a beacon of hope for the homeless community in South Oakland County since 2003. Operating the Welcome Inn Day Center, the only low-barrier wintertime day center in the area, SOCH provides essential services to those in need. Recently, a 20-year lease for the Starr Presbyterian Church building was secured, allowing for an expansion of services and a deeper impact in the community. Collaborating with local churches, SOCH demonstrates a strong commitment to community engagement and support.

Impact

SOCH plays a critical role in providing transitional support to the homeless population, caring for over 80% of Oakland County's chronically homeless adults during the harsh winter months. Recognized as a positive force in the community, SOCH helps individuals transition out of difficult situations through compassionate support and practical assistance.
