Our Story

The South Middlesex Opportunity Council, established in 1965 as part of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty, is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for diverse individuals and families in Massachusetts. Through advocacy, education, and a wide range of services, SMOC mobilizes resources for social change.

Impact

In 2022, SMOC served over 45,258 individuals, distributed $462,671 in tax refunds, and assisted more than 1,600 families with affordable housing, making significant strides in combating poverty.
