Our Story

Founded in 2015 by Tracie Killar, the South End Children’s Cafe began as a community initiative to provide healthy meals to children in Albany, New York. Starting from a local church kitchen, the Cafe has grown into a vital resource for the community, now located at 25 Warren Street. During the pandemic, the organization adapted by launching an Emergency Delivery Program, ensuring that 500 healthy meals and groceries reached 150 families each week. The after-school program reopened in March 2021, continuing to serve over 120 meals daily.

Impact

The South End Children's Cafe plays a crucial role in enhancing food security and equity, while also promoting academic success and the overall well-being of children. By providing free healthy meals alongside homework help and enrichment activities, the Cafe positively influences the physical and mental health of its young participants.
