Our Story
For over four decades, South Carolinians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (SCADP) has been at the forefront of the movement to end capital punishment in South Carolina. Originally founded as 'South Carolina Against the Death Penalty,' the organization has evolved through various phases, including a period of dormancy. In 2021, SCADP re-emerged with renewed vigor, coinciding with the passage of SC Senate Bill 200, which expedited executions and forced death row residents to choose between a firing squad or the electric chair. Today, SCADP is dedicated to building a diverse coalition of advocates, including victim family members, correctional officers, and faith communities, to challenge the death penalty and promote justice reform.
