Our Story

Founded in 1950, the South Carolina Early Childhood Association (SCECA) began as a gathering of preschool teachers eager to improve early childhood education across the state. The initial meeting, inspired by Dr. Jimmy Hymes, led to the formation of a statewide organization dedicated to connecting educators and providing essential training. Over the decades, SCECA has evolved, expanding its mission to serve children up to age eight and their families. With a membership exceeding 1,500, SCECA offers a variety of professional development opportunities, including an annual statewide conference that fosters networking and community among early childhood professionals.
