Our Story

Founded in 1961 by a passionate group of citizens led by Ann Brodie, South Carolina Ballet has evolved from the Columbia City Ballet into a professional ballet company. With its first performance in 1962 and the introduction of the full-length Nutcracker in 1966, the company has a rich history of artistic excellence. Under the leadership of Artistic Director William Starrett since 1986, the organization has embraced a commitment to accessibility and an extensive touring schedule across multiple states.
