Our Story
The South Camden Theatre Company (SCTC) has deep roots in the community, originating from a vision by Father Michael Doyle of Sacred Heart Church. He encouraged playwright Joe Paprzycki to bring his work to Camden, leading to the establishment of SCTC in the basement of the church. With the support of Helene Pierson from The Heart of Camden and Pepe Piperno of the Domenica Foundation, SCTC found its home in the Waterfront South Theatre, a space that has become a beacon of hope and creativity.
Since its inception, SCTC has produced 18 full seasons of theatre, showcasing local talent and engaging the community through diverse performances. The first production, "Last Rites," attracted over 450 attendees, dispelling doubts about the community's interest in the arts. Today, thousands flock to the theatre for plays, music, dance, and poetry, proving that the arts are thriving in South Camden.
