Founded in 1996 by retired General Jim Patterson and concerned citizens on Longboat Key, Solutions To Avoid Red Tide (START) emerged in response to a devastating red tide bloom that affected Florida's West Coast. The organization has been pivotal in securing funding to combat nutrient pollution and raise awareness about marine preservation.
