Transforming Lives in Uganda
In 2009, a journey began that would change the lives of countless children in Uganda. Sole Hope was born from the realization of the devastating impact of jiggers, a parasitic infestation that affects the feet of vulnerable children. With a mission to provide relief and empower communities, Sole Hope officially launched in 2010, focusing on the importance of closed-toe shoes in combating this epidemic.
Witnessing the harsh realities faced by children suffering from jiggers during a visit to Uganda in 2011 solidified Sole Hope's commitment to making a lasting impact. The organization expanded its vision to not only provide shoes but also to empower local artisans by teaching them the art of shoemaking using recycled materials. This initiative has created jobs and fostered a sense of community, as local tailors craft shoes that protect children in need.
Global collaboration is at the heart of Sole Hope's mission. Through "Shoe Parties," volunteers worldwide contribute by donating jeans, cutting out shoe patterns, and sending them to Uganda. This initiative has united people from diverse backgrounds, allowing them to play a part in the shoemaking process.
Today, Sole Hope operates from a dedicated center in Jinja, Uganda, employing a full-time staff that includes caregivers, nurses, educators, and tailors. Each team member plays a vital role in the holistic approach to combatting jiggers and empowering communities.
