Solar Responders
EIN: 83-3822965 · New York, NY
Our Story
Solar Responders was established in response to the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico in 2017. The storm caused the longest blackout in U.S. history, leaving millions without power. In this crisis, first responders struggled to operate effectively, relying on unreliable diesel generators. Solar Responders aims to change that by equipping fire stations with solar-plus-storage systems, ensuring they have a reliable power source during emergencies.
Our Impact
To date, Solar Responders has successfully overseen the installation of 19 solar and storage systems across fire stations in Puerto Rico, providing 228kW of photovoltaic panels and 633kWh of battery storage. This initiative has resulted in over 5000 hours of backup power, significantly enhancing the operational capabilities of first responders during critical times.
