Preserving the Legacy of Maxo Vanka

The Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka was established to raise awareness and educate the public about the significance of these murals, which vividly depict America’s immigrant experience. Located in St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, this independent 501(c)(3) organization has been dedicated to conserving and protecting these nationally recognized artworks since 1991.

Impacting the Community

Since 2009, the Society has successfully funded the conservation of 17 out of 25 murals, thanks to the generosity of thousands of individuals and institutions. In 2022, a Save America’s Treasures Collections Grant was awarded, bringing the conservation efforts to 90% completion and increasing public interest and access to these cultural treasures.
