Our Story

Founded in 2018, Social Justice Clinical Pastoral Education (SJ CPE) is dedicated to transforming lives through spiritual care education. By placing student chaplains in non-traditional settings such as homeless shelters, mental health facilities, and correctional institutions, SJ CPE fosters a unique approach to chaplaincy. A pivotal moment occurred when Rev. Dr. Sue Allers-Hatlie was invited to Stillwater State Prison to train in Restorative Justice, leading to the development of a program that empowers inmates to provide spiritual care to their peers.

Impact

SJ CPE has successfully trained men in prison to offer spiritual care, while also educating seminary students and faith leaders. This innovative approach has garnered recognition in the field of chaplaincy training.
