Culver City Symphony Orchestra

Our Story

In the Fall of 1964, the Westchester Adult School launched a 'String Workshop' class led by local professional violinist George Berres. This initiative blossomed into the Westchester String Symphony, which held its inaugural concert on March 1, 1965, featuring 24 string players. Over the years, the orchestra evolved into the Marina del Rey Westchester Symphony and later became known as the Culver City Symphony Orchestra for winter performances and the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony for summer concerts. Maestro Frank Fetta, who conducted for 45 years, left a lasting legacy before Clyde Mitchell and Steven Allen Fox took the helm as Music Directors. The orchestra has also been a proud sponsor of the Parness Concerto Competition since 1974, nurturing young talent in the community.
