Our Story

Founded in 1980, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Inc was established to meet the growing need for professional emergency medical services in the Smithsburg area. Initially operated by dedicated volunteers from the local fire department, SEMS has evolved to serve a larger population. In 1989, visionary members initiated the construction of a dedicated emergency services station, which was inaugurated on November 18, 1990. Today, SEMS responds to approximately 1200 calls for service each year, ensuring the health and safety of both residents and visitors.
