Smart Development Inc. is a dedicated nonprofit organization that provides a continuum of essential services to the newcomer, refugee, immigrant, and ethnic-minority communities in Northeast Ohio. Founded in 2018 by individuals who understand the challenges faced by these communities, Smart Development has built a reputation for delivering culturally and linguistically competent support. The organization meets clients where they are, guiding them toward stability and self-sufficiency through tailored services.

Smart Development focuses on key milestones along the unique pathways of those it serves, offering a range of services that include basic needs assistance, housing counseling, workforce navigation, comprehensive case management, civic engagement, and adult education. The organization is committed to promoting civic involvement and self-advocacy, empowering new American communities to build collective power and advocate for welcoming policies across Ohio.

Making a Difference in the Community

In 2023, Smart Development served 4,368 clients, provided over $76,000 in emergency financial assistance, and helped 562 families with housing services. This includes support for 138 refugee families navigating housing challenges and distributing 944 culturally-relevant food boxes.
