Our Story

Established in 1974 in the Castro district of San Francisco, Small Press Traffic began in the back of a bookstore called Paperback Traffic. This organization was founded to promote innovative writers and diverse artistic expressions, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Over the years, it has evolved to support under-recognized poets and artists, emphasizing radical inclusivity and collaboration.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Small Press Traffic has uplifted under-recognized poets, enabling them to take creative risks and contribute to a thriving community of boundary-pushing artists. The organization prioritizes equitable artist pay and diverse programming, fostering a vibrant arts scene in the Bay Area.
