Our Story
Over a decade ago, a dedicated group of citizens and community leaders recognized the need for a charter school in the Slaughter School District. At that time, educational options were limited, with only Slaughter Elementary School serving the community. Middle and high school students had to travel to the northern part of East Feliciana Parish, where college preparatory classes were not available. In June 2009, the East Feliciana School Board approved the charter for Slaughter Community Charter School, paving the way for a new educational opportunity.
In the fall of 2011, SCCS opened its doors to 7th and 8th graders, and with each passing year, a new grade was added until the school served students from 7th to 12th grade. The first graduating class in spring 2016 all earned a TOPS High School Diploma, showcasing the effectiveness of the school's rigorous academic programs. With a strong community backing, SCCS is committed to providing a challenging educational environment that prepares students for college and beyond.
