About Ski For Light
The journey of Ski for Light began in Norway during the 1950s, inspired by blind musician Erling Stordahl. His vision led to the Ridderrenn in 1964, a groundbreaking event for disabled skiers. In 1975, Olav Pedersen brought this transformative concept to the U.S., launching the first 'Race for Light' in Frisco, Colorado. This initiative aimed to enhance the quality of life and independence of visually and mobility-impaired adults through the joy of cross-country skiing.
Impact of Ski For Light
Ski for Light has changed the lives of thousands, offering visually and mobility-impaired individuals the chance to learn skiing, fostering independence, and building a supportive community. Participants often describe the experience as life-changing, promoting physical fitness, social interaction, and personal growth.
