Our Story

The Sistrunk Historical Festival, founded in 1979, honors Dr. James Sistrunk, one of Broward County's first African-American physicians. This vibrant festival began as a two-day event aimed at economic redevelopment in Fort Lauderdale's low socio-economic community. Over the years, it has grown to attract over 350,000 attendees, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and accomplishments of people of African descent.

Impact

As one of the oldest African-American promotions in Broward County, the Sistrunk events foster cultural awareness and community engagement. Each year, thousands participate, and the festival provides scholarships to local high school students, empowering the next generation.
