Empowering Black Female Pilots
The story of Sisters of the Skies began in March 2016 when Nia Gilliam and Angel Jean-Charles recognized the lack of representation of Black female pilots in the aviation industry. This realization sparked a mission to connect and support Black women in aviation. Officially established as a nonprofit in November 2017, Sisters of the Skies has since become a nationally recognized organization dedicated to increasing the number of Black female pilots in both military and commercial aviation.
Making an Impact
To date, Sisters of the Skies has awarded over $1 million in scholarships to more than 50 women and provided discovery flights to hundreds of aspiring young ladies through their outreach initiative, Girls Rock Wings (GRoW).
