Our Story

The Sister Thea Bowman Foundation was established on October 19, 1989, at St. Michael’s College in Burlington, Vermont. Founded by Sister Thea Bowman alongside five Catholic university presidents and seven Catholic Bishops, the foundation is dedicated to rekindling hope and opportunities for Black children through Catholic education. By addressing systemic barriers caused by poverty and oppression, the foundation has made a significant impact on the lives of many.

Impact

With a remarkable 98% retention rate, the Sister Thea Bowman Foundation has successfully graduated over 250 students, providing them with access to quality Catholic education and opportunities for personal and professional success.
