Organizational Story

Siouxland Human Investment Partnership Inc, known as SHIP, was established in 1999 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2000. Designated as the Early Childhood Iowa Board for Woodbury County, SHIP plays a vital role in the state’s early childhood initiative, which began through legislation in 1998. In 2011, SHIP expanded its reach to include Ida County, further enhancing its impact.

SHIP also serves as the Decategorization Board for Woodbury County, focusing on collaborative child welfare and juvenile justice planning. The organization is governed by a board of directors comprised of stakeholders with expertise in early childhood, juvenile justice, and child welfare, ensuring that local decision-making is prioritized.

Since its inception, SHIP has successfully obtained federal grants from various departments, allowing it to evolve and provide direct services, including the Beyond the Bell program, which supports children before and after school and during summer. SHIP is committed to addressing community needs and gaps in services, continuously seeking new opportunities to support individuals from pre-birth to death.
