Our Story
Sierra Mental Wellness Group began as a grassroots initiative in the late 1960s to address the community's counseling needs in Roseville. Incorporated in 1970 as Roseville Area Youth Services, Inc., the organization evolved through a merger with Placer Awareness House in 1981, becoming Sierra Family Services, Inc. This merger expanded services to multiple counties, including a third center in North Tahoe. In 2011, the organization rebranded to Sierra Mental Wellness Group, aligning with its current mission. In 2015, emergency mental health evaluations were introduced in San Luis Obispo County, and recently, a new Crisis Stabilization Unit was launched in partnership with Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital and the County of Nevada.
