Our Story
The Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana was established in 1974 to provide essential sickle cell testing for children in the Head Start Program. Recognizing a significant number of positive cases, the organization evolved to support individuals affected by sickle cell disease. Originally named The Baton Rouge Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, Inc., it has expanded its reach across southern Louisiana, changing its name in 2018 to better reflect its mission.
