About Shy Wolf Sanctuary
Founded in 1993 by Nancy and Kent Smith, Shy Wolf Sanctuary began as a refuge for animals rejected by government services and zoos. The first rescue, a Black Asian Leopard named Moondance, set the stage for a mission dedicated to providing a safe haven for exotic animals. In 2001, Shy Wolf became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supported by a dedicated board and volunteers. Today, the sanctuary is home to over 60 exotic residents, including wolves, cougars, and various species of foxes, all thriving on a 2.5-acre property in Naples, Florida.
Impact of Shy Wolf Sanctuary
Shy Wolf Sanctuary has rescued over 1,260 animals and has provided educational experiences to tens of thousands of visitors from around the globe. The sanctuary is one of the few facilities authorized to care for the threatened Florida Gopher Tortoise. With plans for a 17-acre campus expansion, Shy Wolf aims to enhance its capacity to rescue and rehabilitate more animals while continuing to educate the public about wildlife conservation.
