Sammy’s Buddy Program
EIN: 47-4186488 · Denver, CO
Our Story
Sammy Michelle Loewi, affectionately known as Sammy, was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at just 18 months. Despite her challenges, she became a powerful advocate for those who are different. In fourth grade, she proposed a Special Olympics Day, which blossomed into Sammy’s Buddy Program. This initiative pairs able-bodied students with their differently-abled peers, fostering empathy and understanding.
Impact
Since its inception in 2016, Sammy’s Buddy Program has positively impacted over 28,000 students across Denver and Salt Lake City. The program aims to expand its reach to 33 schools and 3,500 additional students in the 2023-24 school year.
