Our Story

Founded in 1975 by James Shepherd and his family, Shepherd Center emerged from a personal journey of recovery after James sustained a spinal cord injury. Frustrated by the lack of rehabilitation options in the Southeast, the Shepherd family, alongside community supporters, established a center dedicated to providing specialized care for individuals with spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, and other neurological conditions.
