Our Story

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum was founded in 1995 by passionate local shell collectors. This nonprofit organization was established to highlight the environmental significance of mollusks and to educate the public about their ecosystems. With over 550,000 shell specimens, the museum serves as a vital resource for research and conservation efforts.

Impact

Through K-12 outreach programs, field education, and online lectures, the museum has successfully engaged the community, even during rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Ian. It stands as a key educational institution dedicated to mollusks and their ecosystems.
