SHARP Literacy

Our Story

Founded in 1996 by Marlene Doerr Kreilkamp, SHARP Literacy Inc. emerged from a vision that art can ignite student achievement. Starting with just 900 students across 13 schools, SHARP has expanded its reach and impact over the past 25 years, now serving 8,500 students in 51 urban schools across Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine counties. Under the leadership of President and CEO Lynda Kohler, SHARP continues to innovate, offering a diverse range of STEAM-focused programs that foster curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking.

Impact

SHARP Literacy is dedicated to empowering students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. With 88% of participants being students of color, the organization partners with schools and community agencies to enhance literacy and STEAM skills, preparing students for lifelong learning and success.
