Our Story

Founded in 2011 by Amy Kadens and a group of dedicated Chicago mothers, Share Our Spare (SOS) emerged from a heartfelt desire to support local families facing hardships. The journey began when Kadens encountered a mother in desperate need of diapers and formula at a North Side food pantry. Mobilizing her network, she gathered hundreds of donations, leading to the establishment of SOS. Since receiving nonprofit status in 2012, SOS has evolved from a garage operation to a 10,000+ sq. ft. Sharehouse, significantly expanding its capacity to serve.

Impact

In 2023, Share Our Spare served 15,600 children through agency and community partners, distributing 1.2 million diapers and essential items, which improved financial stability for 75% of families served.
