Our Story

Share My Meals (SMM) was founded by a dedicated group of Princeton residents, led by co-founder Isabelle Lambotte. While volunteering at a local food pantry, Isabelle witnessed the harsh realities of food insecurity and the lack of nutritious meal options available to families in need. Inspired by a student initiative in California aimed at reducing cafeteria waste, SMM launched its program in January 2020 to recover prepared meals from corporations and deliver them to those in need.

As the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March 2020, SMM adapted quickly to the changing landscape. With many families facing increased food insecurity and local restaurants struggling, SMM leveraged New Jersey’s Sustain and Serve Program to purchase meals at cost from local eateries, delivering over 140,000 meals to families and seniors throughout the region.

As the world began to recover, SMM returned to its original mission of meal recovery, refining its Meal Recovery Program (MRP) to dynamically source surplus meals from various food donors. This initiative not only addresses hunger but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing food waste.

Our Impact

From December 2021 to November 2023, SMM recovered over 27,000 meals from Bristol Myers Squibb’s cafeterias, saving 34,387 lbs of food and preventing 151,970 lbs of CO2 emissions.
