Our Story

Shake-A-Leg Miami was founded in 1990 by Harry Horgan, who envisioned a unique organization dedicated to helping individuals of all abilities enjoy the ocean. Originally established in Newport, Rhode Island, the organization relocated to Miami to leverage the city's favorable weather for year-round programming. With the support of local residents and a significant grant from Miami-Dade County, Shake-A-Leg Miami launched its initial programs to serve students with disabilities.

Impact

Shake-A-Leg Miami empowers individuals with disabilities, veterans, and their families through adaptive water sports and educational programs. In the past year alone, the organization provided over 30,000 visits and 15,000 volunteer hours, along with $740,000 in scholarships for those in need.
