Our Story
Set Free Monterey Bay began with a divine calling at the Gospel and Justice event in 2018. Founding member Michael Aspland envisioned a restoration home for survivors of sex trafficking, inspired by his law enforcement background and personal experiences. The pivotal moment came when local survivor Ashley Chesney reached out, asking, 'How can I help?' This collaboration ignited the mission of SFMB, which proudly operates as a survivor-led organization. Achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2020, SFMB opened its restoration home in July 2022, providing a safe haven for those in need.
Our Impact
Since 2019, SFMB has educated over 7,000 youth on human trafficking prevention through its comprehensive curriculum. The organization has trained 1,408 volunteers and service providers in trauma-informed care, ensuring that survivors receive the support they deserve. Additionally, SFMB has distributed over 360 gift bags to women in vulnerable communities, continuing to expand its reach by educating nearly 1,900 community members annually, including law enforcement and medical personnel.
