Our Story

In December 2006, a community service project initiated by Park Valley Church in Haymarket, Virginia, sparked a movement to support service members undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. This heartfelt initiative led to the establishment of Serve Our Willing Warriors, a 501(c)(3) organization, in 2012. The vision was to create a dedicated retreat property for these brave individuals. In March 2013, a large house on 37 acres was acquired, and after two years of renovations with the help of over 1,000 volunteers and 120 contractors, the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run opened its doors on July 4, 2015. This retreat serves as a temporary "home-away-from-home" for recovering service members and their families, offering programs designed to inspire and support them on their journey to recovery.

Impact

Willing Warriors provides cost-free retreat stays and programs that significantly benefit wounded, ill, and injured service members, disabled Veterans, and their families. With an average hospital stay of about 300 days, many warriors face challenges related to Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The retreat experience aims to refresh and inspire both the warriors and their families, helping them to rebuild their lives.
