Second Mile Haiti

Our Story

Second Mile Haiti was born from a vision for change in 2010 when Jenn Schenk and Amy Syres volunteered in Haiti. Witnessing families forced to give up their malnourished children due to poverty, they established a live-in recovery center. This initiative allows parents to care for their children while receiving education and support, aiming to keep families together and empower caregivers.

Impact

Since opening in 2013, Second Mile Haiti has achieved a remarkable less than 0.6% relapse rate for children recovering from severe acute malnutrition. The organization has also prevented maternal deaths through midwifery-led antenatal care programs, employing 80 Haitian professionals and installing over 330 solar streetlamps to enhance community safety.
